Copy of Title or Register Search Statement – what’s the difference?
They are the same thing. Although the term Copy of Title is widely used and understood they are officially now called a Register Search Statement, or RSS. It’s an electronic copy of a title.
It contains information about the property*, including:
- The names and addresses of the current owners
- The land’s description
- Any encumbrances, such as mortgages, caveats or covenants
*Note the RSS reflects the status of the title at the time of purchase of the RSS.
