Title History
A Title History Search Statement provides a history of the title, not the property.
About Title History
A Title History Search Statement provides a detailed record of a title's history, focusing on ownership and dealings rather than the property itself. It offers valuable insights for those needing historical or legal information about a specific title.
A Title History search typically includes:
- Folio creation details, including the date and initial registration.
- A record of dealings, such as transfers, mortgages, or caveats.
- An image of the paper title, if available.
- Previous land descriptions and ownership details, where applicable.
Why would I need a Title History? (Common Uses)
A Title History Search Statement is useful for a range of purposes:
- Tracing family history: It can help identify previous owners or significant changes to the property.
- Legal matters: Lawyers and solicitors often require title histories for disputes or estate planning.
- Tax purposes: Title histories can support property valuations or tax documentation.
Searching for Title History
You can order a property sales history or valuation report via the Order Now button. You will need to use a property identifier (such as address, volume and folio number, lot on plan or crown allotment) and then select the desired report.
Note where multiple titles are returned, you will need to select a Title History Search Statement for each title.
When ordering instruments via property search, a Land Index Search Charge applies. You can avoid this fee by initiating your search with the instrument number or identifying the property using volume and folio number, a unique identifier for each land title in the Victorian Online Titles System (VOTS).
The volume and folio number can typically be found in the top right corner of your Title Certificate.
Alternatively, check your rates notice from your local council, which may include this information.
If the history provided doesn't go back as far as you require, you will need to order the previous Title History Search Statement, using the volume/folio of the parent title (which is available on each certificate). You can repeat this process until you reach the time frame required.
